Rebecca Remasters

Lars and Mats had not met for at least twenty years, when Mats all of a sudden took a contact on Facebook. “Do you realise that there are vinyl enthusiasts out there who are seriously interested in our old LP?”, he said. Interestingly, the Rebecca album had all of a sudden became hot among collectors, partly since Swedish music from the 1970s is generally attractive, and partly because our LP was pressed in 200 copies only, most of them now gone with the wind.

It seems that this interest had developed after the 2007 release of the book The Encyclopedia of Swedish Progressive Music, 1967-1979: from psychedelic experiments to political propaganda, by Tobias Pettersson. In the description of our album, the author states that “this obscure Luleå duo“ had recorded “an interesting album”, with only 200 copies made. This might be the reason why the old vinyl LP all of a sudden was regarded as a collector’s item.

For a while, Mats and I received a lot of Facebook messages from vinyl collectors all over the world, located in many different countries all over the world. And so we realized that the few remaining copies we have kept are worth quite a lot.

The best part, however, is that we started to meet again on a regular basis. Soon, the idea came up to re-release the Rebecca album on CD, perhaps also with some additional material. In this decision we were strongly encouraged by lovers of progressive music on the Internet (special thanks to Isabel from Rio de Janeiro)!

A friend of Lars happened to have a TASCAM four channel tape recorder, which was used for the transfer and digitalization of the original material.

Lars and Mats remastered the original tapes and released a CD version of the album in 2013, available on Spotify and iTunes. All twelve original songs are included on this release, some of them slightly remixed. Also, five previously unreleased bonus tracks are added.

AND FINALLY – AVAILABLE AGAIN ON VINYL!

There is still a substantial interest for the Rebecca album. We are now very pleased to have the entire original material re-released as a special Collector’s Edition LP by Shadoks Records (2017). Now it is on vinyl again – and no remixes, just the original versions!
